We are part of the Department of Physiology in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Our lab studies how bioelectric signals generated by ion movement across cell membranes control brain function and physiology in health and disease. We investigate how disruptions in electrical signaling drive chronic neuroinflammation and neurological disorders, and how nature preserves bioelectric function in toxin-resistant animals. By integrating biophysics, structural biology, and pharmacology, we aim to develop new strategies to precisely control bioelectric signaling for therapeutic benefit.

We pursue this mission in a collaborative scientific environment where researchers and trainees from all backgrounds are welcomed, respected, supported, and celebrated.
